Starsailor at Southampton

Tonight I went to Southampton with some friends to watch one of my favourite bands, Starsailor. They really do know how to put on a show and James Walsh started with a 30 minute solo set, singing Fever and Lullaby amongst others with just his guitar as accompaniment. He’s got an incredible voice, and despite looking like he could do with a good shave and a shower, he captivated the audience with his vocals.

I’ve seen them several times now and they’re always good, but this gig was different as it was in Southampton student’s union and there was only room for about 500 people, so wherever you stood you were still pretty close to the front. It was a complete contrast to Brixton Academy where I last saw them and I would quite happily go back and see them again and again. If you’ve no idea what I’m on about, you can hear most of their tracks in the Starsailor player, here: http://www.starsailor.net/ – the ones you might recognise are Lullaby, Fever, Alcoholic and Four to the Floor.
