The simplest things….

Grrr! All I wanted to do was install Adobe Acrobat but because I am running Vista it’s not that simple is it?
 
Those of you running Vista have probably turned the user account control feature off by now. This is the extremely annoying "feature" that asks if you are sure you want to run the program you have just clicked on. Unfortunately disabling it appears to have the side effect of also disabling write access to your "temp" folder, so if you run an installation program that needs write access to your temp folder, it will fail, which is what is happening with Acrobat 8.
 
Anyway, a bit of digging around found the solution (see here http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=333643) but all I wanted to do was read a PDF. So that’s another 20 minutes wasted. 😦
